According to the Huffington Post, Irish Cream enjoys no long or storied history. It was invented in 1974 by a consortium of distillers in Ireland who wanted a product they could sell on the international market. Bailey’s was born. (It was named after a hotel room in London, not a mythical father of Irish Cream.)
So you won’t be eschewing a noble history by making the sweet, creamy and, oh yeah, alcoholic stuff yourself.

Irish Cream Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups Irish whiskey (which means you have almost have a bottle to polish off on St. Paddy’s Day.)
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 1 can sweetened, condensed milk
- 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
- 1 teaspoon instant coffee
The one and only step:
Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend for about one minute until silky smooth.

And that’s it! It contains dairy so be sure to refrigerate when it’s not in use (AKA not being slurped down). Unfortunately, the cream tends to curdle after a day or so, so try to consume as quickly as possible — without making yourself sick of course!
Feel free to experiment with the recipe once you get the hang of it! Some variations include vanilla extract and others use cocoa powder instead of chocolate syrup. If you have a variation you absolutely love, please let us know. As Einstein said, “Creativity is contagious — pass it on.”
